Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the questions we hear most often from buyers worldwide. Dongguan Yangqi Hardware Co., Ltd. has specialized in custom metal hardware for 25 years, serving 500+ brands across 40+ countries. If yours isn't listed, reach out directly.

Q1: What product categories do you make? Do you accept custom orders? What's the process?

We specialize in custom metal hardware across 10 categories: handbag and bag hardware, pet hardware (dog name tags, collar buckles, leash snaps), zipper pullers and sliders, outdoor buckles (carabiners, quick release buckles), key chains, metal chains, ring buckles (D-rings, O-rings, tri-glides), metal logo tags and pet ID tags, magnetic snaps and rivets, belt buckles. OEM and ODM both welcome.
We offer a one-stop solution: design, tooling, die casting, polishing, plating, assembly, inspection, and packaging — all 8 steps under one roof, nothing outsourced. You work with one dedicated project manager from inquiry to shipment. Process: send a drawing, sketch, or physical sample → quote within 24 hours → select in-stock or custom tooling → samples in 7–15 days → mass production after sample approval → delivery in 20–35 days.

Q2: I only have a physical sample, no drawings — can you still make it?

Yes. Our in-house engineering team offers reverse engineering — send us your physical sample, we 3D-scan and measure it to recreate production-ready drawings, confirmed by you before tooling. If you only have a sketch or an idea, we also provide design support from concept to creation. Whatever stage you're at, Dongguan Yangqi can take your project forward.

Q3: Will my drawings and designs be kept confidential?

Absolutely. We sign an NDA with every client. Your drawings, designs, and samples are used solely for your order — never shared with other clients or displayed publicly. After the project, you may request that all design files be destroyed or returned. Custom tooling is owned by you and can be collected at any time once the agreed volume is reached.

Q4: Can I modify an existing product instead of fully custom tooling?

Yes — this is one of our most popular options. With 2,000+ in-stock molds, you can:
Change the finish: Same mold, different plating color (gold, nickel, chrome, antique bronze, black, etc.) or PVD coating
Add your branding: Laser engrave your logo or text
Adjust dimensions: Minor size modifications based on existing molds
Mix and match: Combine components from different molds to create a new product
Modified customization is faster (7–10 day samples) and cheaper (zero tooling fees) than fully custom tooling, with MOQ from just 100 pieces. Ideal for new product testing and small-to-medium batch orders.

Q5: What's your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?

In-stock mold and modified-custom products start from 100 pieces — well below the industry standard of 500. Fully custom tooling products typically start from 500 pieces, depending on complexity. We understand startups need small batches to test the market, so we keep MOQs as low as possible.

Q6: How long does sampling take? How many sample revisions are included?

In-stock / modified-custom samples: 7–10 days. Fully custom tooling samples: 10–15 days. Each order includes 2 free sample revisions; additional revisions are charged at actual cost. Our engineering team runs 3D modeling and mold flow analysis before the first sample to get it right the first time and minimize revisions. Sample fees are usually 2–3x the unit price and are credited toward your bulk order.

Q7: How do you charge for tooling? Is it refundable? Who owns the mold?

Choosing from 2,000+ in-stock molds or modified customization means zero tooling fees. For fully custom designs, we charge a tooling fee based on complexity — and it's fully refunded once your cumulative orders reach the agreed volume. Few competitors offer this. Custom tooling is owned by you and can be collected or transferred at any time.

Q8: What's the bulk lead time? Do you support rush orders?

In-stock / modified-custom products: 20–25 days. Fully custom tooling products: 25–35 days. All processes done in-house, nothing outsourced — lead times are predictable. Rush orders are supported — if you have an urgent launch, mention it when requesting a quote and we'll assess a priority production schedule (rush fees may apply). During production, your dedicated project manager sends regular progress photos so you always know where your order stands.

Q9: What materials and finishes do you offer? Do you have eco-friendly options?

Six materials: zinc alloy, stainless steel 304/316, brass, aluminum, titanium, iron. 50+ finishes: electroplating (nickel, chrome, gold, silver, antique bronze, etc.), PVD vacuum coating, powder coating, laser engraving, silk screening, polishing, brushing, sandblasting. Cost-effective: zinc alloy with standard plating. Luxury: solid brass with PVD gold (holds color 3–5 years). Outdoor: 316 stainless steel with 48-hour salt spray testing. All materials and processes are RoHS and REACH compliant, with eco-friendly test reports available.

Q10: How do you control quality?

Three inspection stages: first article inspection, in-process checks, and 100% pre-shipment inspection (dimensions, plating thickness, 48-hour salt spray, functional testing). Defect rate below 0.5%, with an inspection report included in every shipment. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified, with regular third-party testing by SGS and Intertek.

Q11: What environmental and safety standards do your products meet?

We're ISO 9001 quality and ISO 14001 environmental certified, with RoHS and REACH compliant products. If you need market-specific compliance testing (e.g., California Prop 65, EU REACH SVHC, CPSIA), we can arrange third-party testing through SGS or Intertek — just let us know in advance.

Q12: Can you provide samples or inspection reports?

Yes. Pre-order samples are available from in-stock molds (freight collect or sample fee credited to your order). Every bulk shipment includes an inspection report with dimensional data, plating thickness, and salt spray results. Third-party reports via SGS or Intertek can be arranged on request.

Q13: What packaging options do you offer?

Standard: individual OPP bags + export cartons — suitable for most hardware components. Optional: blister packs, paper boxes, custom branded packaging (with your artwork). Export cartons meet ocean freight standards, and palletization is available on request. Let us know your packaging needs when requesting a quote.

Q14: What payment terms do you accept?

Standard: 50% deposit, 50% balance before shipment (T/T wire transfer). PayPal available for small orders; L/C for large orders. Flexible terms can be negotiated for long-term partners. All quotes are EXW by default — let us know your destination port for FOB or CIF pricing.

Q15: What if I receive products with quality issues? Can I visit your factory?

We respond to quality issues within 48 hours. If confirmed as a material or workmanship defect, we repair or replace free of charge — including return shipping. Our warranty covers material and workmanship defects for 20 years from purchase — far beyond the industry-standard 12 months.

You're welcome to visit our factory in Zhongtang, Dongguan. Book in advance and we'll arrange a personal tour of our die casting, polishing, plating, and QC processes.
